An increasing body of evidence is accumulating which supports the use of home BP monitoring as a guide to treatment and prognosis of patients. In fact the American Heart Association Council for High Blood Pressure has called for US insurers to reimburse patients for the cost of purchasing monitors and recommended in a recent position statement that all hypertensive patients should make use of home monitoring to enable better management of hypertension (http://hyper.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/52/1/1)
All of Prof Lobo’s patients are provided with information on how to purchase a reliable monitor for home use and given instruction in how best to measure and document their blood pressures whilst in the community.
More recently Prof Lobo has become a medical advisor to AKtiia and now frequently recommends the use of their fitbit-like bracelet for continuous, unobtrusive BP monitoring which has been clinically validated and CE-marked.
